Yes, we do get some occassional spammers here. It seems like a lot of work for a small return. They have to register, create profiles, and then one-by-one "spam" people. Not sure what the attraction is.

Beyond 'link journalism,' we are getting ready for what I am calling the Linked Content Economy. It's not about just linking out, its about accessing open data and information assets on the Web and bringing them *IN* to automatically create reader engagement features, infographics, sidebars, etc. Check wikipedia for "Linked Data" and see the visuals of the rapidly evolving Linked Data cloud.
